Fan Controllers
A series of modules designed to fit in between the mainboard and your games console’s fan to make the fan spin faster than the console itself
demands. This keeps the temperature down, reduces thermal stress and so lessens the chance of the dreaded Yellow, Blue, (or whatever other
colour), Light Of Death (YLOD, BLOD, xLOD).
All modules are plug-and-play: once you’ve opened the case of the console, simply unplug the fan from the mainboard, plug the module in its
place, and reconnect the fan to the other end of the module. As easy as that!
There are three basic types of module, versions of which are suitable for the Playstation 3 (PS3), Playstation 4 (PS4), PS4 Slim, and PS4 Pro. Also
available are modules for the xBox One and xBox 360 Slim.
Functions
The different functions are as follows:
•
Fixed, 50%, acceleration (Blue or Black)
•
Adjustable acceleration (Green or Brown)
•
Variable speed (Red or White)
•
Variable speed, externally adjustable (Yellow)
•
Variable speed / Override (Grey)
To confuse matters still further, Sony have decided to keep changing the connectors and connections of their fans since the start of the PS4 range.
The original PS4’s (Model numbers CUH-10xxx and CUH-11xxx) had a tiny connector, the next batch (CUH-12xxx) came with the same connector as
the PS3, but the connections were reversed, so a module for the PS3 could be connected to a PS4 but will be destroyed, and vice versa. Next
came the PS4 Slim, which had another different connector, physically larger than the original PS4 connector but smaller than that of the second
generation PS4. With the PS4 Pro (CUH-70xxx and CUH-71xxx), back came the original (PS3) style connector.
The point of this is that although there are only three functions, there has to be multiple controllers just to suit specific consoles. I will attempt
to keep things as simple as possible!
