PoE module for Raspberry Pi A/B

Product CodePOEXZ2M877

With this board and a Power Over Ethernet injector or PoE enabled network port you will no longer need to have a power source close to your Raspberry Pi.

This Power over Ethernet adaptor will allow your Raspberry Pi to have its power supplied through the network cable, so eliminating the need for additional power cables near the Pi. It also has an input for a backup power source such as a 12v battery so that the Pi can carry on working even if the PoE supply fails.

In the event of the network connection failing and/or access to an external time server is not possible, the module also incorporates a battery-backed Real Time Clock and Calendar which will allow the Pi to keep the time.

The adaptor is compatible with the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard, but can easily be configured to work with a passive 24v PoE system by means of a simple wire link (two soldered joints will be required).

The GPIO port is duplicated on the PoE adaptor, so there is still full access when the board is fitted to the Pi.

Main Features:

  • Compatible with IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet standard
  • Tool-free connection point for secondary (back-up) power supply
  • Configurable for 24 volt passive PoE systems
  • Real Time Clock & Calendar with alarm output
  • RTCC is itself independently battery backed by means of a small coin cell
  • Fits directly onto GPIO port
  • Duplicate port on adaptor allows full access to the Pi’s GPIO port
  • Mechanical support for board by supplied spacer and screws
  • Network connection to the Pi by short link cable supplied

You will receive the following items only(the Raspberry Pi is shown solely for illustration purposes) :-

  • The PoE board
  • A short cable terminated at each end with an RJ45 plug for connecting the board to the Pi
  • A metal stand-off with two screws to give a sturdy assembly.

Full documentation is available via a download as a PDF document, and may be viewed here.

Due to shipping restrictions I am unable to supply the coin cell (CR1225) required for the RTCC backup, but this is easily obtainable from your local supplier.
