This is a small module that can be fitted to your Playstation 3 that will allow you to increase the base (minimum) speed of the fan. This base speed is continuously variable all the way up to full speed by means of the small control on the pcb, using a small flat-bladed (2mm) screwdriver.
If the console gets too warm for the selected speed, then the fan will run at the speed required by the system so, for example, if you've set the speed to about half way and the console requires more cooling, the system-set speed will take over to drive the fan at the increased speed. As the console cools down again, the speed will fall back until it reaches that set by the module, therefore the system will never have too little cooling.
This will work with both the original PS3 (fat) and the PS3 Slim.
Note that this module drives the fan with the correct PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal and so causes no extra strain on the fan. Simply fitting a potentiometer is not the correct way to control the speed and may cause premature failure of the fan!
